Introduction

Students are to work in pairs to plan a field trip for the entire eighth grade class. The plan must be practical and fit the needs of the eighth grade curriculum. If they encounter questions that cannot be answered with the available resources, they will have to determine where to proceed in order to continue and finalize their plan.

Content Area and Grade Level

This lesson is designed for eighth grade and involves mathematics and language arts, but can easily be extended to additional grades and subjects.

Curriculum Standards

This webquest addresses the following State of Illinois Learning Standards:
3.A.3, 3.B.3a, 3.C.3a, 4.B.3a, 4.B.3b, 5.A.3a, 5.B.3b, 5.C.3b, 5.C.3c, 6.B.3a, 6.C.3a, 6.C.3b, 6.D.3, 7.A.3b, 7.C.3a, 8.D.3b, 9.D.3, 10.A.3a, 10.B.3, 10.C.3b.

Implementation Overview

Students will begin by using the Internet to research possible locations for a field trip.  They will conduct a survey of their classmates to select the location, graph the results of the survey, draw a scaled map of the route, arrange transportation, graph the breakdown of incurred expenses, compose a narrative of their plan and present it to the class.  The project should take approximately two weeks to complete.

Resources Needed
