Have you ever wanted to meet an author? Have you
ever wanted to learn how or where authors get ideas to write books? Then
follow along and get ready to meet Jan Brett, the author of great
children's stories such as The Mitten, The Hat, The
Gingerbread Baby, Berloiz the Bear, or Comet's Nine Lives?
Now is your chance to be a detective and discover facts about Jan Brett.
Read on to find where she lives during the year, other books by Jan Brett,
and the ingredients Annie ( a character from a Jan Brett story) uses in
her corn cakes.
As the Jan Brett detective, you will complete five of the eight tasks.
Resources
In order to complete this process, you must do number one. Then you may choose any four of the seven tasks to complete.
1. Write a friendly letter to Jan Brett about your
favorite story. See the Friendly
Letter page. Pick a form for your letter. Print two
copies (one for a sloppy copy
and one for neat copy). Remember to use the four parts of a friendly letter.
2. Find a word scramble with your buddy. The words
are from the story The Hat. Go to Barnyard
Word Scramble
and print this page.
3. Write down three reasons people wear hats.
Use the Hat
Quiz page to find your answers.
