Introduction

In this activity you will become more familiar with the Brass Family Instruments by sight and sound. You will learn how Brass Instruments produce their sound. You will also learn a fact about each brass instrument.
 
 
 
 



The Task

Your job will be to 

  • locate each of the instruments below
  • find two facts about each instrument
  • find a site to listen to the instrument

 
 



The Process
The Brass Instrument Family Includes
        • Trumpet/Cornet
        • French Horn
        • Trombone
        • Tuba
Using your checklist:
  1. You will go to 2 or more of the web sites
    • Check off the web sites you visit
  2. Find each of the 4 brass instruments
    • Check off each instrument as you find it
  3. Learn 2 facts about each of the instruments
    • How is the vibration (remember that vibration makes sound) made on brass instruments?
    • List one cool fact that you found
  4. Listen to each of the instruments
    • Check off the web site where you listened
  5. Make sure your check list is complete

Conclusion

By researching these instruments, you should have reinforced your previous knowledge. Did you recognize the instruments by sight?  Did you recognize the instruments by sound? Were you surprised at the facts that you found?   Did you notice how each instrument's mouthpiece was different?  How will the mouthpiece make a difference? How does the length of the tubing make a difference in the sound?  What else do you still want to know?
